Rondout Valley Golf Course

down-at-the-9th

Rondout Golf Club is an eighteen hole public golf course located in the beautiful Rondout Valley area just outside the upstate New York Hamlet of Accord. Views from several of the holes are nothing short of breath-taking. The course is conducive to walkers as well as those who choose to rent a cart. Nearly equidistant from New York City and Albany, Rondout is a leisurely 90-minute drive from both cities.

The course was designed by Hal Purdy and constructed in 1969, Rondout Golf Club is a stimulating 18-hole design emphasizing tough greens and an abundance of water hazards. The fairway grass is fescue and various rye mix with over-seeded poa annua/bent grass greens. Several elevation changes add to both the charm and difficulty, yet do not seriously impede the golfer who prefers to walk. Golf Digest gave it three stars (“very good, tell a friend it’s worth getting off the highway for”) described Rondout best:

Since the addition of the second nine in 1989, Rondout has steadily evolved into a favorite course among players in the Tri-County area. It’s well-kept, playable and enjoyable. The view from atop the clubhouse sweeps across the mountainside. What stands out about Rondout is that no one hole stands out – rather it’s a stretch of solid holes mixing in tree-lined fairways, water hazards, small greens and elevation changes. Whether you’re head professional and former PGA Tour player John DeForest or a weekend mid-handicapper, Rondout delivers a good heaping of hearty golf.
